Mullite is a collective term for a series of minerals composed of aluminosilicates. Mullite is the only stable binary compound in the Al2O3-SiO2 system. This type of mineral is relatively rare. Process conditions:
Sintering to synthesize mullite is generally carried out at 1650-1700°C. The main technological factors affecting the synthesis of mullite by sintering method are the purity of the raw materials, the fineness of the raw materials and the calcination temperature. The synthesis of mullite by sintering method mainly relies on the solid-phase reaction between AI2O3 and SiO2. Therefore, increasing the dispersion of raw materials will accelerate the process of solid-phase reaction. Especially particles <8 μm have a great effect on the formation and sintering of synthetic mullite. It can be seen that the raw materials are fully mixed and finely ground, which is an important process condition to promote the solid-phase reaction of the synthesis of mullite to proceed fully.
Application scenarios:
Mullite is widely used in refractory materials. It can be used to make refractory bricks and refractory casting) buckets. Refractories containing mullite can be used in steel plants, aluminum plants, cement plants, and oil refining refractories.
